Okukyala is a Ugandan cultural Ceremony for Marriage where the fiancé Visits the Home of his fiancé to officially Introduced as the soon to be Husband. The Okukyala owa Senga Ceremony brings both families together in a Celebration.
The Okukyala SetUp
Okukyala Is set at the fiancée’s place the soon to be wife where cultural celebrations and norms are done like Agreeing for both families on the Bride Price of the Wife to be paid by the Man’s family.
Dressing
Men at the event normally wear the Cultural Dressing the Kanzu in Buganda and the Gomesi for the women.
Okukyala Ewa Senga
The Ceremony also involves the fiancée talking to their anut who advices them on the Expert advice of marriage. Teaching and introducing them to how marriage is started and how a good marriage is kept by the woman.
Okukyala in Ankole
Okukyala in Ankole is called Azalwa which is the direct translation is to Be orn in that family. The ceremony is Respected and Is Big in Ankole as it where the Fiancé is given the Number of Cows to Pays Bride Price. In Ankole People and fiancé pay up a hundred Cows for marriage.
Origins of Okukyala
Okukyala has been in Buganda since the inception of Time. It part and parcel of the Marriage process in Uganda and in Buganda. It carried out by all Cultures and Tribes in Uganda and Africa. It though famous in Buganda where it was popularized.
